A More Pensive D.Lew, You Will Not Find
So, here I am...hovering on each moment, poised as a sprinter before the starting gun; my soul seems suspended in anticipation of the green light, ready to drop into drive. Days, soon to be hours, are all that cloud my vision of the moment we arrive in Seattle, and strangely, also the moment we bid Los Angeles goodbye. Time is a funny thing. Not funny like "ha ha"; funny like strange or unthinkable.
A year ago I knew I needed to go west. Eight months ago I traded valuable sleep for cold December nights swimming in Wendy's dumpsters, searching for plane tickets via value meal cups, and the flu. Another week and I'll be in the thick of our journey...another semester and I graduate, hopefully with a renewed purpose, calling, direction, or whatever you might call it.
I have come to understand in this life, no amount of planning will guarantee a final destination. The best I can do is point my feet in a righteous direction and step, seeking wisdom along the way. Thats what this journey is about...and, oh man, you know we're going to pick up some crazy stories along the way.
This:
"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."
-Proverbs 27:1
That:
"What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?"
-Matthew 16:26
The Other:
"Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen."
-Romans 12:33-35

Be men of courage; be strong.
I Corinthians 16:13
In my favorite devotional book, Streams in the Desert, by Mrs. L. B. Cowman, she writes: "The purpose of our trials is not only to test our worthiness but also to increase it, just as the mighty oak is tested by the storms as well as strengthened by them."
Offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life. Romans 6:13
Mrs. Cowman also writes: "...I had never yielded my life to God with a definite act of my will. Yet as I thought of my own precious plans that might be thwarted, my beloved hopes to be surrendered, and my chosen profession that I might have to abandon--I was afraid. I completely failed to see the better things God had for me, so my soul was running from Him.... It was then I realized that the Man who had died for me could be absolutely trusted with the life He had saved.... You can trust Him to thwart each plan that should be stopped and to complete each one that results in His greatest glory and your highest good. You can trust Him to lead you down the path that is the very best in this world for you."
With skillful hands he led them.
Psalm 78:72
Mrs. Cowman writes: "When you are unsure which course to take, totally submit your own judgment to that of the Spirit of God, asking Him to shut every door except the right one...As you continue down the long road, you will find that He has gone before you, locking doors you otherwise would have been inclined to enter. Yet you can be sure that somewhere beyond the locked doors is one He has left unlocked. And when you open it and walk through, you will find yourself face to face with a turn in the river of opportunity--one that is broader and deeper than anything you ever dared to imagine, even in your wildest dreams.... If you go to God for guidance, He will guide you. But do not expect Him to console you by showing you His list of purposes concerning you...if you trust Him and go cheerfully ahead when He shows you the way, He will guide you still farther."
Love and prayers for a safe, wonderful and thrilling adventure walking with the Lord!!

I hope you find what you're looking for. Remember that reaching a goal isn't necessarily finding a black and white answer along the way, but rather the strength you've gained, lessons learned, and memories made along the way. Things like these change our character and mold our direction in running the race of life for God. ~Rebecca Russell
